28 years old Sara needed a babysitter. She needed someone to watch her newborn while she worked. However, she couldn’t afford the fee for an experienced professional. So, she decided to go with the next best thing: a 14-year-old girl named Mindy. Mindy was a cheaper option for babysitting compared to an experienced babysitter. Additionally, she was very lucky that she didn’t get stopped by the police. Because if that would have happened, she would have lost even more time or maybe gotten a ticket.
A Quiet Afternoon
When she parked her car in front of her house, she noticed that the street was very quiet. It was around 4:00 p.m., and the street was empty. Nobody was around and there were no cars parked on the street. She quickly got out of her car and ran towards her house.

She felt nothing different after stepping out of her car. There was no sign that anything bad had happened. When she reached the front door, she noticed that the door was closed and there was no sign of forced entry. The windows were unbroken, and there was no evidence of any forced entry.

After getting close to the door, she took out the extra key to open the door. She felt a little odd when she saw that the key was trembling in her hand. She took a deep breath, inserted the key into the lock, and opened it. As soon as she entered inside, she called out for Mindy. But there was no answer and the house was completely silent. She started to feel chills down her spine and she knew something was wrong. She was confident that something is not right and she had to find Mindy.

Just when she was about to lose all hope, she heard the sirens of the police. She ran towards the door and opened it. She was relieved to see the police but she was also worried about what they would say. After all, she had no idea what could have happened.

After meeting the police officer, she was asked to explain what had happened. The tears in her eyes made it difficult for her to speak but she managed to tell them everything. A police officer and other members started to search the house. She was informed that they would do a thorough search of the house and then they would try to figure out what had happened.
Mindy’s Parent’s Response
The police officer advised her to call Mindy’s parents and inform them about the situation. Additionally, ask them if Mindy had gone to their house. Right away, she dialed their number and waited for someone to pick up the phone. After a few rings, Mindy’s mother picked up the phone.

When her mother picked up the phone, Sara asked her if Mindy was there. But her mother said that Mindy wasn’t there and she hadn’t come home yet. This news made Sara even more worried. Even Mindy’s mother was getting worried and she wanted to come over to Sara’s house.

The police officers are finally done with their search and didn’t get any clue that could help them find Mindy. Moreover, they didn’t find any evidence of forced entry or anything that could suggest that Mindy was kidnapped. They told Sara that they would do everything in their power to find her.
Police Find clues in Mindy’s unfinished lunch
Police found the half-full glass of orange juice and freshly made avocado sandwich on the table. It looked like Mindy had left in a hurry and she didn’t even have time to finish her lunch. That was the worst part for Sara because it suggested that Mindy was taken against her will.
Amber Alert Issued for Mindy and Baby
They quickly got ready to send out an Amber Alert for Mindy and her baby. But they were still waiting for more evidence to be sure that Mindy was kidnapped. After a while, they heard a sound coming from the backyard and they quickly went to check if it was Mindy.
The Mysterious Noise in the Backyard
Immediately after hearing the noise, the whole family and police force rushed to the backyard. Everybody looked around but they couldn’t see anyone. It was like someone was playing a prank on them. But when she called out the name of Mindy again, she received a response. And it was coming from the tree-house that was in the backyard.
The Rescue
Finally, there was some sign of Mindy. She was in the old tree-house that nobody used anymore. She was very scared and she was holding the baby in her arms. As soon as police officers saw her, they climbed up the tree and brought her down. Both were safe and sound. The whole family was relieved to see that baby and Mindy was safe. But they were still confused about what had happened.
Mindy’s Explanation
Mindy had a lot of explaining to do now because everybody was confused about what had happened. Mindy was not in a situation to talk much because she was still shaken due to the whole incident. After some point of time, she was finally able to explain the whole thing.
The Burglar’s Plan
Mindy told them that someone came into the house when Sara was not at home. But she didn’t know how he managed to come inside the house because all the doors were locked inside. That’s why the police were unable to find any forced entry. Mindy said that the burglar was looking for something valuable in the house.
His Lucky Day
The strange man entered with his own keys and went through the whole house. But he didn’t find anything that he was looking for. All thanks to Mindy, who managed to get away from him and took the baby with her. At that time, the baby was sleeping so the burglar didn’t even know about the baby.
The Old Treehouse
Eventually, Mindy managed to get outside and ran toward the backyard but she was confused about where to go. She couldn’t go back inside the house because the man was still there. And that’s when an old treehouse caught her eye. It was an old treehouse that nobody used anymore.
The Message Mindy Sent to Sara
The cute baby was still asleep in her arms when she reached the treehouse. Anyhow, she managed to climb up the tree with the baby in her arms. And that’s when she text Sara about what had happened. After a couple of minutes, she heard the noise again and realized that the man was coming towards the treehouse.
The Dizziness of Fear
Mindy was so scared that she started to feel dizzy. She couldn’t think straight and eventually, she passed out. The next thing she knew was that she was surrounded by a lot of noise. One thing she remember was the text that she sent to Sara. She was hoping that Sara would understand what she meant by that text.
The Face of the Unknown Man
Sara told Mindy to remember the face of the unknown man so they could give the police a description. After listening to the description, there was no doubt left in her mind. She quickly realized that she knew the man. In fact, he was very close to her and knew her well.
Steven
The man was no other than Steven who broke up with her a couple of months ago. He was the father of her child and she never thought that he would do something like this. The description was a perfect match and there was no doubt that it was him. She quickly called Steven while the police were still there.
The Man Who Broke Her Heart
Sara flooded with her anger when she called Steven. She was yelling at him and asked him what he was trying to do. Steven tried to act innocent but it was too late now. He talked very politely so that nobody could get a hint that he was the one who did this. But she wasn’t in the mood to listen to anything. All she wanted was answers and she wanted them now.

Steven knew that he was wrong and there was no point in denying it now. But he still tried to play with words and act innocent. He thought that maybe he could still get away with it if he tried hard enough. He even asked Sara to meet him so they could talk about it but she refused.

Sara made her decision and she was not going to change her mind. She did the same thing that any other mom would do in her situation – she took him to court for a restraining order. She was not going to let him near her or her child ever again. And she was not going to give him another chance to hurt them.

Court ordered him to stay away from both Mindy and the baby. He was also ordered to pay a hefty sum of money to Mindy for all the pain and suffering that he caused her. On top of that, he also had to pay monthly child support to Sara. In the end, justice was served and Mindy could finally move on with her life.
The Happy Ending
Mindy recovered from the trauma and she was able to move on with her life. On the other hand, Sara took the responsibility of staying home and raising the baby. After a month, Mindy started babysitting again but this time there were no hurdles like before. And that’s how they both lived happily ever after.
