Somehow, the cat managed to notice the strange and awful events and the cat protected the daughter. Julian cursed himself, feeling like a failure of a father for letting this situation slip by without his notice. While he should have been happy the cat had saved his daughter, he couldn’t help but be filled with guilt. A cat should not have been the one protecting his daughter, that was his job as her father and the man of the house.
